"My name is Richard Vaculik, but no one can pronounce my surname so everyone calls me Richie Vas. I grew up surfing at Maroubra beach, Sydney. And i still live there today.

I love chasing swells around Oz and Overseas, and am most happy when surfing a new slab somewhere with a couple mates. When i’m not surfing i like to try and stay fit and have gotten involved in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) over the past few years I have had a couple fights and now have a 4-0 record.

This year i’m hoping to score some more big barrels here in Oz and squeeze another fight in somewhere. I plan on ending the year in Hawaii where i can surf and train."

VITALS:
Richie Vas as he's known is the epitomy of what Jet Pilot is about...a hardcore, hard charging attitude towards the sports he loves. In Richie's case it's charging mutant death slabs, where he is regularly seen at places like Shipsterns and Ours.

As well as being close friends with fellow 'BraBoys' Kobe Abberton and Mark Matthews, Richie's commitment to putting his life on the line in the most evil waves he can find is exciting to say the least. Big Wave Surfing does and will always create a buzz. Richie's goals are simple; to become recognized as a leading global big wave surfer, both freesurfing & in global big wave events.

Richie and Mark recently did a tribute to the late Steve Irwin by towing into giant Shipsterns with a blow-up Crocodile (video below). Richie is also the Australian Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Champion for his weight division and recently starting cage fighting, has a 2-0 record.

Also, check out the video at the bottom there of Richie & the Bra Boys tackling "Ours" during a heavy swell last season.  The ending is crazy!!
