Blowsion Surf Slam

Monday, 2 September 2013

The world's supreme Watercraft Freeriders and Watercraft Racers are descending once again to the ocean beaches of Pacific City, Oregon for this year's top USA personal watercraft surf event, which combines the second round of the IFWA Freeride World Championship Tour with the IJSBA Freeride World Cup and Motosurf Western Championship. The Blowsion Surfslam presented by Jetinetics is held at Tierra Del Mar Beach access located just north of Pacific City, Oregon and is free to the public. The Surf Slam brings over 75 top professional and amateur competitors from around the world competing for a cash purse and points towards the IFWA World title, and competing for the 5th Annual IJSBA Freeride World Cup. Joining them will be some of the finest PWC racers exhibiting unreal high speed turns and jumps through a grueling race buoy course while being confronted by the Pacific Coast's always unpredictable wave sets.

Pro and Amateur Freeride competitors will compete in a head to head double elimination format. A panel of professional judges will score them based on 50% for their wave surfing, and 50% for their aerial maneuvers. The IJSBA, in its support for the IFWA, will award the winner of this round with the IJSBA Freeride World Cup. The infamous Oregon Pacific Coast surf will launch freeride competitors over 20+ feet in the air while performing surf combinations featuring multiple rotation backflips, Madonna rolls, Superman backflips, Nac-Nacs, inverted barrel rolls, floaters, look backs, aerial re-entries and no handed landings. Spectators will also witness intense Pro and Amateur personal watercraft racing with the IJSBA Moto Surf Invitational. These agro racers will compete in a Multi-Moto head to head race format of several laps through a buoy course requiring a balance of maintaining high speeds while making split second strategic maneuvers around left and right turn buoys and other racers. All the while while trying to keep from being crushed by the intense Pacific Coast surf swell.

This event is a three day weekend of non-stop surf and beach vibe action. The Freeride Qualifying will begin on Friday September 6th. New for this year will be Moto Surf race practice sessions on Saturday Sept 7th for those wanting to test their ability in the swells before the competition. Freeride Competition and Motosurf Racing will take place on both Saturday and Sunday Sept 7th and 8th. Check the Blowsion Surfslam schedule page for up to the minute updates and schedule changes.

K&S Racing Kuwait is proudly presenting the third annual K&S BIG AIR SHOWDOWN on Saturday Sept 7th with a $500.00 cash award to the watercraft competitor exhibiting the most amplitude in this must-see contest of aerial throw downs. On Sunday September 8th, courtesy of 2013 Surfslam Sponsor Monster Energy, three riders from the renowned Monster Freestyle Moto Cross team will be performing motorcycle backflips, Superman Seat Grabs, Nac-Nacs, Cliff hangers and other renowned FMX tricks on the FMX ramps. There will be two shows (10:30 AM and 1:30 PM) on the Surfslam beach. Dont miss out on these talented Pro FMX aerialist masters jumping 40+ feet in height over a 75+ foot distance gap!

Rounding out the amenities of this action packed weekend is a vendor and sponsor beach display area with local food and beverage and brewery offerings to add to the festival surf environment. With over three miles of open beach to launch from, be sure to bring your family beach blankets and your own wave shredding watercraft to carve up some of the famous Oregon West Coast Surf!

JOEL BROWN CLAIMS FIRST BLOOD AT AFMXC OPENER

NSWs Joel Brown has lived up to expectations hes the rider to beat at the 2013 Australian and Underground Freestyle Motocross Championships (AFMXC) by claiming victory at the opening round, the Jetpilot Invitational, at Coonabarabran, NSW over the weekend.

Brown conquered both a world-class course and stiff competition from Australian legend Matt Schubring and Nowras Luke McNeill on his way to the win.

The YZ250 rider was at his aggressive best, throwing some of the biggest tricks in the business such as Seatgrab Indy Flips, Whip Flips, a Double Can flip off the 110ft ramp and huge upright combos.

Im really pumped to win on a big course like this, Brown said afterward. It was also great to be standing on the podium next to [Matt Schubring]. Ive looked up to him as a rider for a long time.

Schubring, who has renounced his retirement to return to the sport he loves, was at his smooth, stylish best around a daunting course littered with both steel and dirt hits. As well as his signature tricks and quarter-pipe domination, Schuie also threw his first Superflip Indy in years in a bid to topple Brown from the top of the dais, but had to settle for second.

Its been a long time since Ive ridden a course this big and Im just happy to come out, ride with everyone and support the series thats supporting Aussie FMX, the Queenslander said afterward.

After winning the series qualifying round last month Luke McNeill proved he can mix it with the big guns with a well-deserved podium place.

In the Underground Championship that runs parallel to the AFMXC, expat Kiwi Callum Shaw proved hes the man to beat with big Superflip Indies and dirt-to-dirt flips.

AFMXC series organiser Joel Rayner was ecstatic at how smoothly the Jetpilot Invitational ran and the high quality of riding around a brutal course.

Not taking anything away from the guys, but Im genuinely surprised at how comfortable everyone was on such a big course, Rayner said. Even the new guys who progressed to the championship from the qualifying event hit almost every obstacle and did it safely. It just goes to show just how deep the talent pool runs in Australia.

I also want to give credit to Cameron Sturtridge and the Goanna Tracks staff. They put on an amazing venue for us and the amount of work they invested into prepping the course for the boys is outstanding.

The second round of the AFMXC, the Unit Invitational, will be held at Boonah, Qld on September 14.
